Skitter Bot Scorpion, Red

3.9 from 9 ratings

The scorpion swaps the spider's round body for claws and a raised tail, and the silhouette alone does most of the work.

  • A shape nobody mistakesClaws at the front and a curled tail at the back — even still on a floor it reads as a scorpion from the far side of a room.
  • Same stubborn skitter driveOne switch, no remote, and a curving walk that keeps it moving around obstacles instead of jamming against them.
  • Red over a dark floorThe finish shows up on tile and laminate, so the scorpion stays trackable while it runs.
  • Button cells suppliedThree LR44 cells come with it; swapping them takes a coin and a few seconds.
  • Pocket size, full nerveSmall enough to travel in a bag and still the one that gets left on a desk for somebody to find.

On the bench

The scorpion is our favourite desk drop. It does not move any differently from the spiders, but the tail changes how fast people react — we have timed it, and it is not close.

The claws and the raised tail do their work before the bot has moved at all. Kids leave this one on a desk for friends to find, which is the prank the shape was designed for, and the fun survives a cell swap with a coin and a steady hand.

Like the spiders it has no remote, no remote control box, no lights and nothing rechargeable — the movement is three button cells and a curved walk. Experimenting is a question of surface and placement: slate lets it turn and keep going on an almost endless loop, a rug ends the run early.

It sits on the nano bots shelf, in among the rest of the HEX BOTS robotic toys, so it went through the same yardstick as every other bot there before it got a card here.

Who plays with it, and what stands next to it

Customers buy the scorpion as the prank of the three. Play is the same switch-and-go routine, but the raised tail changes the reaction, and the fun is in choosing where to leave it. The design is pocket-sized, the crawling walk is cool on tile, and at this money it is the gift you add to a bigger one.

Spiders in green and red share the chassis if the scorpion silhouette is too much. Climbing is a different shelf: the gecko crawlers hold smooth walls, one of them glow-in-the-dark.

Getting it, swapping it

Delivery, tracking, swaps and warranty claims are handled on the order page of the store you bought from — they hold the order, we hold the bench. Read how we split that in Doorstep & swaps.

The instructions in the box run to one sheet; our charge and care guide covers cells, run life and storage between runs. Surfaces and charging questions come to bench@hexbots.pages.dev, Mon to Fri, 9am to 6pm ET.

Fun little toy for my spider-loving toddler! He loves that the legs move.
