  • Switch on and walk awayNo remote and nothing to pair. One switch sends the spider off across the floor on its own and it keeps going until the cells are done.
  • Circular hunting patternThe gait curves, so instead of running straight into a wall the spider sweeps a room and finds its own way around furniture legs.
  • Green body, realistic headEight legs under a detailed head — close enough from across a kitchen that people move their feet first and look second.
  • Three LR44 cells includedButton cells are in the box, so the spider runs the minute it is out of the packaging.
  • Floors, tables and outdoorsHard surfaces indoors, a patio slab, a picnic table — anywhere flat and dry works.

On the bench

Green is the one we leave on the bench by accident, which is how we found out it will walk off a worktop. It is quick, and it genuinely does not care where it is going. Hard floors only — carpet pile stops it dead.

There is no remote and nothing to pair, so smaller kids get to play with this one on their own: a single switch, eight legs and a curving walk that sweeps a room. Three button cells are included, and the run life outlasts most of the sessions we have timed.

There is no remote control, no rechargeable pack and no lights on this one: the movement is three button cells and a motor that does not care which way it moves. Experimenting means choosing the floor rather than steering, and friends after a glow-in-the-dark bot or a cool prank should look at the crawlers and the real bugs instead.

It sits on the nano bots shelf, in among the rest of the HEX BOTS robotic toys, so it went through the same yardstick as every other bot there before it got a card here.

Who plays with it, and what stands next to it

Customers with smaller children end up here, because the play needs no remote and no patience: one switch and the spider is away. The fun comes from the crawling pattern finding its own way around a chair leg, the design is cheap enough to buy two, and the endless circling turns a tiled kitchen into a racetrack. It is a stocking-sized gift.

Red is the same bot in a brighter shell, and the scorpion swaps the body for claws and a raised tail. None of the three climbs — walls belong to the gecko crawlers on the next shelf.

Getting it, swapping it

Delivery, tracking, swaps and warranty claims are handled on the order page of the store you bought from — they hold the order, we hold the bench. Read how we split that in Doorstep & swaps.

The instructions in the box run to one sheet; our charge and care guide covers cells, run life and storage between runs. Surfaces and charging questions come to bench@hexbots.pages.dev, Mon to Fri, 9am to 6pm ET.
